Yoga and touring holiday, Iceland, 12-19 June, 2016

This is something very special: a combined Iyengar Yoga holiday and a guided tour in amazing Iceland. We got great feedback from the last time we ran this trip, so we thought we’d do it again! Each day will start with a yoga class (about 2 hours, depending on the day’s itinerary and activities). The yoga sessions will be taught by Ros, so this holiday is suitable for all levels of ability, from complete beginners to long-standing practitioners. All yoga equipment is provided.

Just over a couple of hours’ flight from the UK, Iceland is the perfect place to appreciate an environment both spectacular and peaceful. Iceland displays nature’s power, with stunning waterfalls and tranquil lakes, lava fields, beautiful mountains, massive glaciers, bubbling mud pools, and the largest hot spring area in the world. With its pure air, Iceland is a nature lover’s paradise, with unusual geological formations, including giant basalt columns and tectonic plate rifts.

This yoga holiday is organised and hosted by Svava Sparey, also an Iyengar yoga teacher, who will act as our tour guide. Svava has a passion for both yoga and Iceland, and draws on the experience of her Icelandic mother, Jóna, who has been running tours to Iceland since 1985. We have a luxury coach and a friendly, experienced driver to take us to see stunning sights in this fascinating land of the midnight sun.

We will be exploring the peaceful and unspoilt Snæfellsness Peninsular in the west of Iceland. This area is interesting and strikingly beautiful, offering a sample of the things that make Iceland so special. Highlights of our tour include a coastal walk across lava fields, driving up over the summit of the glacier, and a boat trip in the bay from the picturesque fishing port of Stykkisholmur. We stay in comfortable country hotels (all rooms are ensuite) situated in beautiful locations, conveniently close to the many natural attractions we visit. We visit first the award-winning Hotel Hellnar, on the remote and peaceful coast at the foot of the Snaefellsjokull volcano and glacier. Our next two nights are in the charming fishing port of Stykkisholmur, with views across the bay. Our last few days are spent in Reykjavik, enjoying its picturesque streets, harbour, galleries and museums, thermal swimming pools, shopping and restaurants. The centrally located hotel in Reykjavik is within walking distance of all the attractions of Europe’s most northerly capital city.

Cost: £1,729 per person (based on two sharing a room). Single room is £1929. Non-yoga participants are welcome (£110 price reduction). This includes:
